Basecamp reminds you that it’s time to step back, take a break, breathe.
Don’t count your time. Make your time count.
Basecamp: a metaphor for your escape, your adventure.
A premium, custom-made tool watch that is equipped with the style, comfort and durability to brave the day-to-day madness of a modern, urban existence.
As much a mind-set as it is a timepiece.
A wrist-worn, time-telling instrument that must withstand outdoor ordeals and assist the wearer in their exploits. A tool watch criterion: always readable, right away.
Shaped by wartime necessity, technological advancements, and exploration of our earth, tool watches are every man’s constant companion.
Basecamp is exactly that.
A high-performance device with on-trend vintage aesthetics, featuring an iconic neon-orange hour hand, minimalist dive bezel, and an in-house developed crystal made with the same raw material found in bulletproof glass.
Basecamp. More than the quintessential tool watch.
Tool watches should be light and compact, and in no way clumsy or cumbersome – they are designed to fuse effortlessly with an explorer’s physique, so they never have to be taken off during a journey.
Weighing in at just 66 grams, Basecamp ticks all the boxes (and scales).
Perfect for everyday wear, indoors or outdoors, office, off-site… Sans crown guards, Basecamp has slimmed down to smarten up for all sorts of occasions.
At 40mm in diameter and 15mm thick, Basecamp sits snugly on any wrist. Lug-to-lug length is 48mm and lug width is 20mm, allowing easy exchange with all UNDONE 20mm straps.
Basecamp is driven by one of the most reliable and robust workhorse in the industry – the Seiko Instrument Inc. NH35a automatic movement. The Japanese are known for precision and efficiency.
The watch fuels up by wrist motion, but can also be wound manually via the crown; fully wound, it’s armed with a 42-hour power reserve.
Retro beige by day, and radiant green by night. Charged under sunlight, Japanese phosphorescent pigment ensures a vibrant, long-lasting glow that will endure till dawn.
Orange: the colour of safety; the colour scientifically proven to be best perceived by the human eye in both dark and bright conditions. Orange: the colour of Basecamp’s large, arrowed hour hand for instantaneous readability.
Hour markers are distinct, showcasing bold, military-style, deliberately oversized 3-6-9-12 numerals, all coated in vintage lume. With Basecamp, telling time is swift and straightforward, regardless of surroundings.
Today, watch crystals are mostly flat. Basecamp’s 3mm crystal is patently arched for a real, retro look. The desired shape took the UNDONE team two years to develop in the lab using LEXAN™, a polycarbonate thermoplastic found in headlamps and motorcycle helmets with 250 times the impact strength of glass.
Basecamp takes the case-making process one attentive, artisanal step further – an extra angled and polished cut along the lugs to enrich its overall silhouette. A subtle nod to what horology buffs may dub the “golden age” of mechanical watchmaking, when workmanship was key. The devil is in the details, as the saying goes.
Basecamp’s transparent bezel is engineered to simulate the old-school aesthetics of classic Bakelite bezels, with colors and lume applied underneath. It’s rotatable in both directions without clicks, like back in the good ol’ days. The main design mimics the famous 1950s ‘sterile’ insert with no markings but a single glow-in-the-dark triangle; it was originally intended for soldiers on long missions to measure time elapsed in hours.
Basecamp’s 316L stainless steel case comes in four options: silver; gold; rose gold; and matte black. Except the silver case, all the others are thinly vacuum-coated using PVD, for softened shine and heightened hardiness.
While compatible with any 20mm watch bands, Basecamp comes with a new and exclusive NATO strap selection in orange, olive green, and black, in two different coatings. “NATO” is a nickname for the “G10” strap first issued to British soldiers in 1973 – waterproof, fail-safe and easy-to-change.
The choice is between a vintage, understated ‘sterile’ bezel displaying just one lumed pointer to indicate the hour, or the more conventional ‘graduated’ bezel for accurate minute-by-minute measurement (available in May 2019).
|The Hardware||Stainless steel case with "clickless", bi-directional bezel is 40mm in width. Thickness measures 15mm when including the specially developed "plexi" crystal covering, boasting impact strength 250 times that of glass. Choice of matte-black PVD coating. The watch is tested for 50m / 5 bar water resistance.|
|The Straps||Exclusively coordinated with new NATO straps to maximise that rugged feel. Available in orange, olive green and black; these special nylon straps are also interchangeable with any 20mm watch bands for a fresh look, any time.|
|The Packaging||A grey, snap-fastened vintage fabric box with pull-out capsule. Your watch rests snugly inside, next to a separate bed that is made for an additional strap (extra strap is not included).|
|Shipping & Returns||All UNDONE watches come with free worldwide shipping and 1-year warranty. Our 14-day return policy applies to all watches except those with personalized parts such as engravings and prints.|
